5 Reasons Why Carpets and Rugs are Essential in Interior Design

A rug may be considered an accessory, but it may also serve as a focal point of a basic area. Simply adding a rug to a dull space solves the issue. While there is a great argument to decorate with a rug, there are many more that are as compelling.

For example, you might claim a rug completes a space by visually connecting all of the individual parts. Why? Because they bring functionality, color, pattern, texture, style and flair to every room!

Adding a new rug to a space can quickly freshen it up and give it a whole new appearance, all while being a cost-effective way to decorate!

Let's have a look at 5 reasons why carpets and rugs are essential to your home’s interior design:

Importance of Rugs in Home Decor

1. They are the easiest way to add luxury
Rugs are the simplest and most luxurious accessories to add to your home's decor. The beauty of carpets for homes is that they come in a variety of textures and sizes to match the personality, style and needs of various people and their individual spaces.

Rugs are, indeed, difficult to clean. However, the aesthetic of wall-to-wall carpeting or the attractiveness of area rugs in home Interior decor isn't as out of date as you would think. Some new brands even offer washable rugs that add ease incase of any spills.

Consider just adding rugs if you are planning a home remodel or interior design for a new house or apartment.Rugs for houses can conceal flaws while also increasing the aesthetic of the home.

2. Illuminate a dark room

Dark hardwood or laminate flooring is a stylish and popular choice for modern houses.

They may, however, steal a lot of light from certain places, particularly hallways without windows.

Runner Rugs in a lighter tone will help to break up this kind of flooring, giving you the greatest combination of richness and airiness.

Add a wide rug with bright colors to a room with dark walls and furnishings to help lighten the appearance and feel of your living space, or layer a light rug over a dark carpet.

Rugs are useful since they may be used in a variety of ways. You may move them about the room, across rooms, and even easily take them with you when you move!

They are ideal if you like changing your decor regularly since they let you change it up with the seasons or anytime you choose.

3. Take in the Sound

Rugs' capacity to absorb sound is one of their most practical advantages. If you can hear echoes in your home or believe that sound can be heard throughout the whole house, area rugs should be the next item on your home design shopping list.

The velvetier and denser your rug, the more it will absorb sound and reduce noise. This applies to all forms of noise, including from a television or radio, loud speaking voices and heavy footsteps being some of the worst offenders.

4. Improvement of your decor

Rugs are often thought of as a means to improve the look of one's house. This is understandable given that carpets are available in almost every color, pattern, material, and form imaginable.

A colorful or brightly colored rug may create a strong impression. A neutral or classic patterned rug may be the ideal addition to the decor. For further contrast, use a dark rug on a light floor and vice versa.

Rugs are a great way to add color and texture to any area while also warming it up and providing a decorative touch.

An antique and valuable rug provides a dramatic atmosphere that may be complemented by a gentle color on the wall or a pattern on the curtains and home textiles.

5. Anchors furniture

A living room or family room furniture arrangement might seem to float in space. With the addition of a rug, you will visibly anchor the furniture, transforming the overall appearance of the area.

Under a dining room table or strategically placed in a bedroom, a rug has the same effect. A rug shifts the main point of a room and offers a visual boundary that makes a place seem snugger and cozier.

Rugs make a space seem more linked and unified. Use a rug large enough to fit under the front legs of your furniture in living and family rooms. If it's too little for that, place it beneath your coffee table.

Area rugs seem perfectly at home in every space, whether it's the living room, bedroom, or dining room. A rug unifies everything and makes it seem harmonious.

As a general guideline, place a rug under the biggest piece of furniture or group of furniture in a room to anchor the area.

Rugs underneath a dining or kitchen table should span the entire length and width of the table with extra room. A tightly hugged rug may cause a tripping hazard when you pull out chairs. Ensure your rug has plenty of space to walk around and pull in and out chairs.

When adding a rug to a bedroom, underneath a bed, ensure it fully covers the length and with of the entire bed and is not just sitting at the end, or base.

For living room use, think big! You want to have your furniture anchored by the carpet, and not vice versa. A carpet that only fits underneath a coffee table will not suffice in a large area. Tuck the ends of the rug under the base of your couch or chairs, or fully underneath the entire living room set as pictured above.
